In October this year, Australians went to the polls to vote in a referendum to give the country’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples greater political rights. Initially the proposal had the support of 60 per cent of the population but in the end it was roundly defeated. So what went wrong and what’s next for Australia’s Indigenous population?
